Azerbaijan is studying the best practices of the European Union in the field of electronic identification with a view to its further application in the country, Azer Bayramov, deputy executive director of the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies of Azerbaijan, said May 25.

Bayramov noted that the EU has a legal framework, technical standards and best practices in the field of electronic identification.

"The goal is to study this experience and its application in the country, which can ensure mutual recognition of the e-signatures between the EU and Azerbaijan in the shortest possible time. One of the important documents regulating electronic identification and trust services of the EU is eIDAS," Bayramov said.

Bayramov said the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which provides EU residents with tools for full control over their personal data, is also a relevant document.

The regulation has direct effect in all EU countries. The importance of the GDPR is the principle of operation of the new European rules for the processing of personal data, in connection with which companies focused on the provision of services in the EU market, should carefully consider the rules, since from May this year the responsibility for violation of the rules of personal data processing is tightened.
