By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Applicants from Azerbaijan can be automatically eligible for Horizon 2020 funding, provided they fulfill necessary conditions, European Commission sources told Trend commenting on the possibility of EU funding of the Azerbaijani scientific project.

Earlier, Telman Aliyev, director of the Institute of Control Systems of Azerbaijan’s National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) told Trend that it is planned to apply for a grant of the European Union to continue research on monitoring the state of the cardiovascular system using Robust Noise Monitoring (RNM) technology.

Using this technology in medicine makes it possible to listen to noise in the airways, heartbeat and receive evaluation information about problems in the human respiratory system.

“Azerbaijan is not associated to Horizon 2020, but applicants from Azerbaijan can still be automatically eligible for Horizon 2020 funding, provided they fulfill necessary conditions,” said the European Commission sources.

“Horizon 2020 is open to the world. This means that participants from all over the world, regardless of their place of establishment or residence, can participate in most of the calls of Horizon 2020.”

Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation program ever with nearly 80 billion euros of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020).

The source noted that in fact, researchers and innovators from Azerbaijan have already been supported by EU funding from Horizon 2020 and its predecessor, FP7.

“As a general rule, Horizon 2020 proposals are evaluated by independent experts, who prepare a ranking list on the basis of specific criteria such as excellence or impact. On the basis of this list and taking into account the available budget for the call, the proposals are selected.”
