Baku, Azerbaijan, July 13

By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

An updated draft law “On e-signature and e-document” has been prepared in Azerbaijan, a source in the Azerbaijani government told Trend.

The new version is in compliance with the EU Electronic Identification and Trust Services Regulation (eIDAS).

The law “On e-signature and e-document” of Azerbaijan is in compliance with the EU directive of 1999.

Despite that eIDAS came into force in 2016, some of its provisions will be adjusted as the practical application experience is gained. Since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect at the end of May 2018, in the process of applying eIDAS, the methods of protecting personal data used must be brought in line with the requirements of the GDPR.

“Azerbaijan has also adapted the legal regulation in accordance with the new law of the EU,” the source noted. “The work in this direction has been carried out since last year, and presently, the draft law is ready and will soon be submitted for discussion.”

The new legislation will allow Azerbaijan to mutually recognize certificates of e-signature with European countries.

It was earlier reported that the EU renders great support to Azerbaijan in this issue and as part of the TAIEX program, European experts are assessing the current situation in Azerbaijan.
