Uzbekistan, China to create Digital Silk Road

Uzbekistan and China will create a Digital Silk Road as part of development of the digital economy, Uzbek media reported referring to the 2nd Central Asian Huawei Innovation Day held in Tashkent.

"Our main goal is to create an innovative environment and ecosystem in Uzbekistan. This event will provide an opportunity to initiate development of such ecosystems. We want to cooperate with Huawei in the tech innovations sphere" Minister of Innovation Development of Uzbekistan Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov said.

Huawei Senior Vice President Victor Zhang noted that the technology company is planning to contribute to development of a sustainable economy in the Central Asian region.

"We want to transform the region into a Digital Central Asia. Our goal is to bring technology to every person, every home, and every organization, so that the intellectual world would surround us everywhere. Life in developed countries is already filled with smart devices, sensors of light, temperature, sound. And we want the people and governments of Central Asia to use them in their daily lives," he said.

The representative of the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the president of Uzbekistan Farrukh Jurayev noted that Uzbekistan needs to take a key place in development of high technologies of China in order to form the Uzbek-Chinese digital trade hub in the framework of successful implementation of the Digital Silk Road project.

Since 2013, Huawei Innovation Days has been held in London, Milan, Munich, Paris, Singapore, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Sao Paulo.
