Kazakhstan is among top ten countries introducing 5G

Ministry of Digital Development, Defense and Aerospace Industry states that Kazakhstan, along with the United States, South Korea, Switzerland and Estonia, is among the top ten countries that have begun piloting the introduction of 5G, Trend reports citing Ranking.kz.

In May this year, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held a working meeting on the implementation of the fifth generation communication network in Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the impact of the introduction of new technology on the expansion of opportunities for the development of the digital economy and the Internet of Things (IoT) was discussed.

As part of infrastructure development to cover 5G by the end of this year, a pilot project is planned to be implemented in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Shymkent. In general, it is expected that the network 5G will cover all the settlements with more than 50,000 people.

In January-April this year, investments in the area of ​​information and communications in Kazakhstan reached 21.8 billion tenge; the amount increased by 27.5 percent year-on-year.

During the same period of 2018, the investments in this sector amounted to 17.1 billion tenge, with an annual an increase of 18.8 percent.

Almaty received the largest investment amounting to 8.1 billion tenge, which is 8.8 percent less than the previous year (8.9 billion tenge). Nur-Sultan and North Kazakhstan region that received 3.8 billion tenge and 2.7 billion tenge respectively, are included in the top three.

A study by International Data Corporation shows that in 2019, global shipments of 5G smartphones will reach 6.7 million units, while its market share will be only 0.5 percent.

In turn, the supply of 4G smartphones will amount to 1.3 billion units, and the market share will remain high reaching 95.4 percent.

As expected, by 2023, the share of deliveries of 5G smartphones will be 26 percent (401.3 million units) of the market, and 4G smartphones will decrease to 71.7 percent .

Meanwhile, the share of 3G smartphones in the market will make only 2.2 percent by 2023.
