Kazakhstan may launch One Web satellites assembling

The prospects for implementing a project of satellites assembling for One Web company in Nur-Sultan were discussed in Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

The topic was discussed during the meeting between Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin and the CEO of the British company One Web Adrian Steckel.

During the meeting, Steckel talked the company’s preparations for the launch of 34 satellites from the Baikonur Cosmodrome planned for Feb. 6 and 7, 2020.

This year, the company plans to carry out eight launches from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The global satellite network will consist of 504 satellites in 12 orbits at an altitude of 1,200 km. Full commissioning of the satellite network is expected at the end of 2021.

The parties also discussed the prospects of implementing a project of covering Kazakhstan’s territory with high-speed broadband Internet, including remote and inaccessible areas.

The prospects for implementing a project of assembling satellites for One Web at the Spacecraft Assembly and Testing Complex at the National Space Center in Nur-Sultan, as well as the creation of a joint venture to deploy a gateway station in Kazakhstan for the subsequent exclusive distribution of One Web satellite internet to the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran and Afghanistan were discussed.

One Web company is currently concerned with creating a global low-orbit satellite network to provide high-speed Internet access and data services.
