Azerbaijan accelerates process of introducing multifunctional smart cards

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 24

The process of introducing smart cards for students and teachers in all higher and secondary special educational institutions in Azerbaijan is being accelerated, Spokesperson of the International Cooperation and Communications Department of country’s Central Bank (CBA), Namig Aliyev, told Trend.

Aliyev added that more than 20,000 students of Azerbaijan State Economic University (UNEC) have already received student smart cards.

Currently, work on issuing smart cards to students of Baku Engineering University and the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is underway, the spokesperson said.

“Leading universities of Europe, Russia, and Turkey widely use multi-functional smart cards for students. The main feature of these cards is that with the same card you can access an educational institution and a library, use it for scholarships, contactless payments both in university canteens and in a regular trading network,” Aliyev noted.

The spokes person also added that the use of smart cards by students will lead to an increase of a new generation with a modern payment culture and the formation of a digital payment environment in our country.

The presentation of the Smart Student Card project was held at Azerbaijan State Economic University (UNEC) on November 2.
