Azerbaijan expands satellite service geography

Azercosmos OJSC, Azerbaijan’s satellite communications operator, expanded its activities in the field of satellite services, providing television broadcasting to more than 30 countries in Central Asia and the Middle East (45 percent), Europe (40 percent) and Africa (15 percent) via Azerspace-1 telecommunications satellite in 2019, Trend reports referring to a report on the activity of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in 2019 submitted to the country’s parliament.

According to the report, the company sold data transfer services to 10 major customers in these regions, and a total of 80 percent of the satellite revenues came from the export of these services.

The revenues of Azercosmos OJSC from the export of satellite and telecommunication services via Azerspace-1 (37 percent) and Azerspace-2 (37 percent), as well as the low-orbit satellite Azersky (26 percent) in 2019 amounted to $49.2 million.

According to the report, in 2019, Azercosmos continued its activities in the field of developing the space industry and satellite services, carried out relevant activities on preparing various elements of this industry including satellites and spacecrafts by local experts. In addition, Rocketry Azerbaijan, a rocket modeling festival was organized for the first time in the country.

Moreover, in accordance with the corporate social responsibility program, the participation of students of technical departments of various countrywide universities as young envoys was ensured in the International Congress on Astronautics in Washington, USA.

At the same time, Baku received the right to host the International Astronautical Congress to be held in 2022 during the election to the General Assembly of the International Federation of Astronauts held in the US capital, Washington, which was another remarkable event in the industry. This federation is the world's leading space advocacy body with 398 members in 68 countries.
