Investments in communication industry of Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan plummet

Over 1.44 million manat ($847,058) was allocated for the development of information and communications in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (AR) from January through October 2020, which is 51.4 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing Nakhchivan’s State Statistical Committee.

In 2019, about 2.97 million manat ($1.74 million) was allocated for the development of information and communication, the committee said.

From January through October 2020, houses with the latest IT infrastructure were commissioned in Nakhchivan in the villages of Mukhanjig-Mehrab and Mammadsabir of the Sharur region, the village of Najafalidiza of the Babek region, the village of Vanand in the Ordubad region, and in the village of Jamaldin of the Julfa region.

In these houses, new generation automatic telephone exchanges were installed with a capacity of 192 numbers in the village of Mukhanjig-Mehrab, Sharur region, 256 numbers in the village of Mammadsabir, 32 numbers in the village of Najafalidiza. In the village of Vanand, Ordubad region, new generation automatic telephone exchanges with a capacity of 568 numbers have been installed, and in the village of Jamaldin, Julfa region - 320 numbers.

“The construction of a new generation telecommunications system in the Julfa region, the reconstruction of the communication house, the construction of a radio and television station (transmitting and receiving signals) in the Ordubad region, the construction of a communication house in the Kangarli region and the building of a radio-television station (transmitting and receiving signals) in the Sadarak region are nearing completion,” said the committee.

In addition, a new building of ‘Nakhtel’ LLC was commissioned in Nakhchivan.

As a result of the measures taken in 2019, 94 percent of Azerbaijan's telecommunications system is currently fourth-generation systems based on New Generation (NGN) technology.
