BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.14

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) in the past 10 years has turned from a popular trend into one of the conditions for the survival of industrial enterprises, Oleg Sek, a consultant of the US IDC company in the CIS region, told Trend on Apr.13.

According to Sek, Azerbaijan very quickly realized this at the highest level, which resulted in the decree of the head of state to establish a Center for Commercialization and Technology Transfer will become a regional hub for the development of Industry 4.0.

"In general, the active implementation of Industry 4.0 tools allows to achieve significant optimization of production chains and increase efficiency both at the level of individual enterprises and at the national level," he said.

The consultant also shared several forecasts on the development from IDC analysts.

"In 2021, 80 percent of all industrial companies will unite operational data streams with enterprise data streams to support broader and faster operational innovations. By 2023, over 50 percent of new enterprise IT infrastructure will be deployed using edge computing rather than enterprise data centers, up from less than 10 percent today," he further said. "By 2024, 50 percent of industrial companies will have flatter organizational structures, more effective cross-functional collaboration, and fewer middle managers."

"To decrease the number of critical hardware failures, by 2024, 40 percent of global manufacturers will use IoT (Internet of Things) data for intellectual diagnosing of problems and their autonomous resolution, reducing unplanned downtime by 25 percent," added Sek.
