Iran is expanding its internet connection in the country's remote villages, advisor to Minister of Information Communication Technology Iraj Rouhi said, Trend reports via ILNA.

"Currently about 80 percent of Iran's villages are connected to high-quality internet," he said. "The goal is to connect remote villages to internet."

He pointed out this project is a costly one, considering the costs of electricity supply, building roads, etc.

"In some cases installing cables to a cross-country fiber-optic network will be costly," he said.

Rouhi said there's need for a credit worth some 120 trillion rials (about $2.8 billion) to finish the project.
