The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) invested 612,600 AZN in the telecommunications sphere of Azerbaijan in January 2006. The same index in 2004 was about 92 billion AZM. The funds were mostly directed to the reconstruction of the communication objects, construction of new telephone lines, both in the suburbs of Baku and in the regions of Azerbaijan, the Ministry told Trend.
During this period the Aztelekom Producing Unit (PU) invested about 48,700 AZN, the Baki Telefon Rabitasi PU some 537,100 AZN, Teleradio PU around 7,000 AZN.
In 2005 the Ministry invested 157,571bn manats in the telecommunications sector of the country, which is 66bn manats more than 2004.
As of 08.02.06 official rates of manat in regard to the US dollar was 4573 manats (0,9146 AZN) at the National Ban of Azerbaijan.
