Azerfon JSC, a new mobile operator, is expected to cover at least 80 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan under the assistance of Germany`s Siemens in 2007, Trend reports referring to a message spread by Azerfon. The official launch of Azerfon services ais expected to take place within a few months. The Company is also about to present a number of new services by using up-to-date technologies capable to competition.
According to John Armley, Azerbaijan intends to become the leader of the regional telecommunications and IT market. In its turn, Azerfon will do its best to become an integral of this process, he added.
Earlier, the Telecommunication and IT Ministry has issued a zonal code to the Company. The code of the mobile operator is 070. At present, totally the tree providers represent the mobile communication in Azerbaijan: Azerfon, Bakcell (055), and Azercell telecom (050).
The license on the mobile communication servicing was granted to Azerfon JSC by the decision of the Collegium of the Telecommunication Ministry held on December 28, 2005. The founders of the joint stock enterprise is the Production Association Aztelekom (10 percent), Germany`s Siemens (30 percent), and two British telecommunication companies (60 percent).
