Azeri Communications Ministry Holds Negotiations with Consulting Companies within SEZ Creation Project

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications & Information Technology is holding negotiations with various large consulting companies within the project of creating a free economical zone in Azerbaijan to develop top-class technology.

The Ministry has forwarded nearly 10 proposals to various large consulting companies, Trend reports quoting the same Ministry. Negotiations have already been held with a number of companies with responses expected from others, the same source stated.

The Ministry hopes that the consultant will be confirmed and an agreement signed by the end of the year.

The consulting company will be required to hold an analysis of the situation with the sector of high technology in Azerbaijan and define the expediency of creating a special zone for high technology, review the negative and positive sides of creating this structure, its impact on the development of the sector and on the economical development of the country and create a juridical base (developing laws on these zones and other normative-legal acts regulating this sphere). The implementation of the work will take 4 months.

The project envisages creating technical parks for the development of small and medium innovation entrepreneurship, creating regional bases for the production and exportation of electronic equipment and program support, turning the country into a transit Data Center, preparing and developing human resources for the formation of the information society, as well as applying for the information and communication technology in other aspects such as health and agriculture.

Defining the exact budget of the project is also on the agenda.

In December it is planned to sign agreements with the suppliers and to carry out and accelerate the work included in the plan of measures regarding the project. Immediately after this, a tender will be announced for the construction works.
