Azercell Telecom was established on January 19 1996 by Turkcell Д°letiЕџim Hizmetleri A.S and Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies. The company set up its activities on 15 December 1996 through offering its clients mobile services on pre-paid basis.
Since Azercell began operations in December 1996, the company has invested more than 523,394,019 USD in Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Taxes, Azercell is the second largest taxpayer operating outside the country's oil sector. During its first five years of activity, the company paid a total of $308,732,974 into the state budget and other state funds.
Azercell currently holds 76% of the market share in mobile telecommunications.
