The head of the Department for Co-ordination of the Activities of the State Institutions of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Gulam Abdullayev, informed Trend that Azerbaijan has prepared and submitted proposals to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) within the project of purchasing a national communications satellite. At the end of last year, a representative of ITU who specializes, in satellite communications was in Baku and the necessary work in this respect was carried out. The proposals reflect the key requirements, parameters of the satellite and necessary indicators, the same source said.

Once the organization has considered the proposals of the Ministry, they will also be sent to other satellite organization for familiarization.

We await news from the organization. We consider that next week we will be given information if our proposals were accepted or not, he said.

The issue of defining the orbit position of the satellite will be discussed during the World conference of radio communications scheduled to take place in November 2007, the same source said. During the Ministerial meeting in November last year, the technical parameters of the satellite were discussed and it was considered practical to prepare a light-weight satellite.
