Azercell Carrying Out Work to Improve Network

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr S. Babayeva /Azerbaijan's leading mobile operator "Azercell Telekom" JV wishes to inform its subscribers that some shortcomings and lineouts will be experienced while Azercell is providing its GPRS service which is to begin from 3 April from 2 a. m. during the night and in the afternoons. The work currently being carried out is aimed at improving the network of the mobile provider.

The number of subscribers to Azercell Telecom JSC is expected to increase. Today, the number of subscribers exceeds 2.3 mln. At the beginning of the Company's operation in 1997, the number of subscribers was just 10,000. The Company covers 78.4% of the territory and 98.8% of the population of Azerbaijan with its mobile communication network. The Azerbaijani Mobile Operator has roaming agreements with over 300 mobile providers from more than 130 countries.

The number of Azercell base stations installed in the country has exceeded 1,000.

Azercell JSC was established on 19 January, 1996. Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Telecommunications

Azercell Telekom is a joint venture of the Azerbaijan Telecommunication and IT Ministry (35.7%) and Fintur Holdings BV (64.3 %), with 58.55% belonging to TeliaSonera and 41.45% to Turkcell.
