Azercell Increases Number of Its Stations

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend /Expanding its field of coverage in Baku and other regions in May, Azerbaijan's mobile operator Azercell Telecom JV made its communication services more qualitative for subscribers. The company installed twenty-seven more stations in Baku and different regions of the country within the last month. Sixteen of them are located in Baku, two in Guba, and nine other stations in Aghdash, Barda, Dashkasan, Davachi, Goranboy, Kurdamir, Gusar, Shamkir and Khachmaz regions, the Company reports.

Azercell Telecom JV successfully continues to expand its field of coverage. The mobile communication leader of Azerbaijan provides high-quality telecommunication services and continuously increases the number of its radio base stations with the aim of providing qualitative communication services all over the country. The results of the last five months of 2007 shows that Azercell successfully implemented its targeted radio base stations' installation strategy.

Azercell has completely installed two Home Location Registers (HLR), thirteen Base Stations Controller Systems (BSCS), sixteen Mobile Services Switching Centers (MSSC) and 1,183 Radio Base Stations (RBS).

The mobile communication provider aims to continue inreasing the number of its base stations.

Today, the number of subscribers exceeds 2.5mln. The company covers 78% of the territory and 99% of the population of Azerbaijan with its mobile communication network.

Azercell JSC was established on 19 January 1996 by Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S. and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Telecommunications.

Azercell Telekom is a joint venture of the Azerbaijani Telecommunication and IT Ministry (35.7%) and Fintur Holdings BV (64.3 %), with 58.55% belonging to TeliaSonera and 41.45% to Turkcell.
