Iranian organization to hold tender to protect Hirkan forests

The Iranian Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization will hold a tender to protect 2.07 million hectares of Hirkan forests, Chairman of the Organization Khalil Aghai said, Trend reports referring to the organization’s website.

There was a program for protection of 1.05 million hectares of Hirkan forests last Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), he added. In his words, there is also a program to increase the area of ​​protection this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019).

Some 35,000 hectares out of 41,000 hectares of box trees have dried up in Hirkan forests, Aghai said.

Although the international organizations have announced that box trees will be destroyed, the organization is trying to protect these trees, he said.

The organization is not against agricultural work and mining operations. The organization opposes the destruction of natural resources as a result of the unplanned operations, Aghai added.
