Most tourists travel Turkey by air transport

Air transport is the most popular among tourists visiting Turkey, Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend on Oct. 5.
Around 4,224,997 of 5,383,332 tourists visiting Turkey in August 2018 arrived in the country by air, and this accounts for 78.48 percent of the total number of tourist arrivals.
"In August 2018, 175,835 tourists arrived in Turkey by sea, accounting for 3.27 percent, 979,451 tourists (18.19 percent) by road and 3,049 tourists (0.06 percent) by rail," the ministry said.
In August 2018, 2,068,338 tourists arrived in Antalya by air. In Istanbul this figure stood at 1,387,953.
The ministry said that 5,383,332 tourists visited Turkey in August 2018, which is 15.56 percent more than in the same period of 2017.
Some 654,737 tourists from Germany, 363,433 - from the UK, 235,364 - from Bulgaria and 204,092 tourists from Georgia visited Turkey in August 2018, and 3,925,706 tourists who visited Turkey in August 2018, fall to the share of other countries.
During the above-mentioned period, 2,074,498 tourists, accounting for 38,54 percent of the total number of tourists, visited the Turkish province of Antalya.
In August 2018, 1,391,036 tourists, accounting for 25.84 percent of the total number of tourists, visited Istanbul.
As of January-August 2018, 32,410,034 tourists visited Turkey, which is 22,92 percent more than in January-August 2017.
