By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

This year Kazakhstan held talks on air communication with the aviation authorities of eight countries, Civil Aviation Committee of the Investments and Development Ministry told Trend.

These countries are the US, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Bulgaria and Latvia.

"Within its competence, the Civil Aviation Committee holds relevant negotiations with the aviation authorities of foreign states in order to open new routes and increase the number of flights on the existing routes," the message reads.

For instance, on October 17, during Kazakh president's visit to Finland, an agreement was reached to grant additional rights to air carriers of the two countries to operate regular flights on the Helsinki-Astana route.

"This, in turn, will facilitate the growth of European tourists coming to Kazakhstan and neighboring countries, as well as increase the transit passenger traffic," the committee noted.

The message also says that within the programs under the Culture and Sports Ministry, work is underway to develop tourism and attract foreign tourists to Kazakhstan.

Currently, air communication between Kazakhstan and other countries is carried out in 96 international directions.

Seven Kazakh airlines operate in the domestic air transportation market: Air Astana, SCAT, Bek Air, Qazaq Air, Zhezkazgan Air, Zhetysu and Southern Sky. Moreover, there are 25 foreign and 2 Kazakh airlines operating in the international air transportation market of Kazakhstan.
