Turkey eyes to increase number of incoming Iranian tourists

In 2019, 2.5 million Iranian tourists intend to visit Turkey, deputy head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) Hasan Erdem said, Trend reports referring to the Turkish media.

Meanwhile, 1.670 million Iranian tourists visited Turkey in 2018.

He stressed that every Iranian tourist spends at least $500 in the country.

“The number of tourists visiting Turkey is expected to increase by 22 percent and reach 40 million people in 2019,” Erdem said.

In March 2019, 240,200 Iranian tourists visited Turkey, which is 38.04 percent less compared to the same period of 2018, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend earlier.

"The share of Iranian citizens in the total number of foreigners who visited Turkey during this period was 10.76 percent," the ministry said.

In January-March 2019, 447,100 Iranian tourists visited Turkey, which is 39.44 percent less compared to the first quarter of 2018.

In March 2019, 2.232 million tourists visited Turkey, which is 4.33 percent more compared to March 2018.

In January-March 2019, Turkey’s tourism revenues reached $4.6 billion, which is 4.6 percent more compared to the same period of 2018.

Thus, 80.3 percent out of the total income received via the tourism sector in January-March 2019 accounted for foreign tourists. The remaining 19.7 percent accounted for Turkish citizens living abroad.
