Direct flights have been launched between Georgia and Switzerland, Trend reports referring to the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Flights along the Kutaisi-Basel-Kutaisi route are operated by WizzAir low-cost airline.

The first passengers of the flight arriving in Kutaisi International Airport were given symbolic gifts.

Since September 10, Wizz Air has gradually launched new international flights from Kutaisi International Airport including direct regular flights to Copenhagen, Brussels, Tallinn, Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Bari (Italy) and Poznan (Poland).

Wizz Air started flying from Kutaisi International Airport in 2012. In September 2016, the first airline base was opened at Kutaisi International Airport.

In May 2017, Kutaisi International Airport added a second Wizz Air base and started operating five most popular destinations in Europe.

In 2018, Wizz Air transported 95 percent of the passengers of Kutaisi International Airport (587,643 passengers).

Georgia and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in June 1992. Since then, countries have collaborated in tourism and agriculture.

For the seven months of 2019, more than 5,500 visitors from Switzerland visited Georgia, and for the whole of 2018 - more than 7,000.
