Azerbaijan sees rapid growth of tourist inflow from Turmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 13

The number of foreign citizens who arrived in Azerbaijan from January through November 2019 increased by 11.1 percent compared to the same period in 2018 and reached over 2.9 million people, Trend reports referring to the statistics of the Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency.

“The growth in the number of tourists this year is by twofold more than in November 2018,” a source in the Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency said.

In terms of the number of tourists, the highest rates relate to tourists from Russia (866,000 people) and Georgia (661,000). The number of incoming tourists in Azerbaijan increased by 20.2 percent. More than a half of tourists (52.3 percent) accounted for citizens of these two countries.

The highest growth rates in percentages account for those who arrived from the countries of South Asia (38 percent) and Central Asia (46.7 percent), reaching 120,000 and 107,000 people, respectively. Among the countries of South Asia, a noticeable increase in the influx of tourists accounts for India (67.7 percent) and Pakistan (12.2 percent).

The number of those who arrived from Turkey and Iran increased by 8.3 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively, reaching 289,000 and 235,000 people. Some 43,000 people arrived from Kazakhstan during the first 11 months of 2019 (a 24.5 percent-increase).

The number of tourists from Turkmenistan during the reporting period increased by 91.9 percent up to 49,000 people.
