BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 26

By Anastasia Savchenko – Trend:

One of the main events for the Baku Metro CJSC in 2019 was the opening of two stations after overhaul, namely, Bakmil and Shah Ismail Khatai stations, spokesman for Baku Metro CJSC Bakhtiyar Mammadov told Trend, commenting on the issue regarding the results of 2019.

“The above-mentioned stations opened after reconstruction with the participation of the president in 2019,” the spokesman said.

“As for Bakmil station, despite its full modernization, its architectural features have been preserved,” Mammadov said. “Moreover, its station platform was closed with a special umbrella in case of rains.”

Regarding the overhaul of the Shah Ismail Khatai station, the spokesman reminded that the repair work was launched at the station in 2014 while the first phase of the overhaul completed in 2016.

“As the Shah Ismail Khatai station has only one exit and entrance and the lifetime of escalators has expired, we were forced to re-close this station,” Mammadov added.

The spokesman also stressed that as a result, the entire infrastructure of the station was renewed but its architectural features were preserved.

“The main feature of this station was that reinforced concrete sleepers, which are produced by the company, were first used on the station tracks,” Mammadov said. “This allows us not to purchase wooden sleepers from abroad. Moreover, the lifetime of reinforced concrete sleepers is 50-80 years while the lifetime of wooden sleepers - a maximum of 40 years."

“Taking into account the existing geological conditions, the lifetime of wooden sleepers in the Baku Metro is 18-25 years,” the spokesman said.

Shah Ismail Khatai is the terminal station of the second (Green) line of the Baku Metro, located on an autonomous section from Jafar Jabbarli station to the Shah Ismayil Khatai station, which consists of these two stations.

Bakmil is the station of the first (Red) line of the Baku Metro. It is located on the access road to the depot. The trains arriving at the station often move to the depot.

The trains move from the station in two directions - to the Icheri Sheher and Darnagul stations. The movement to the Hazi Aslanov station is technically impossible according to the route development scheme.
