Flights on 14 new routes will be launched in Kazakhstan in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s president.

This was noted during the meeting between Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar.

During the meeting Skyar talked the work done to establish an Open Skies regime in Kazakhstan.

“Some 14 new air routes are to be opened in 2020 by airlines from Qatar, Poland, Oman, Belarus, Malaysia, Romania, the UAE, and Kuwait. In addition, negotiations are underway with the aviation authorities of Switzerland, South Korea, Singapore, Latvia, and Lithuania,” the report said.

Sklyar said that in accordance with Tokayev’s instructions, 12 new air routes were opened in 2019, including from Nur-Sultan to Prague, Ulaanbaatar, and Tokyo.

In turn, Tokayev instructed to continue active work on expanding air links between Kazakhstan and concerned states, as well as on increasing cargo transportation through the main airports of Kazakhstan.

Tokayev also noted the importance of increasing competition in the aviation sector, which will favorably affect the quality of passenger service and the development of civil aviation in general.

In 2019, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Jomart Tokayev has ordered to increase a number of international flights implemented from Nur-Sultan.

According to Tokayev, the number of direct international flights operated from country’s capital Nur-Sultan does not exceed 30 routes, which is not enough.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan's Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov said that Qatar Airways (Doha city, 2020), Emirates (Dubai, 2021), China Eastern (Shanghai, 2021), Ural Airlines, Pobeda and other air companies are to start operating in Kazakhstan.
