Uzbekistan continues to provide rail freight transportation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 6

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Uzbekistan does not stop cargo transportation under its commitments reached in international agreements despite the coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan Railways.

The first batch of 90 containers of export cargo of Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant went from Sergeli station (Tashkent) to Turkey on March 29, 2020, the report says.

The route runs along the Transcaucasian transit route Baku-Tbilisi-Kars. Such cargo transportation is planned to be organized weekly except for Turkey to Russia, EU countries, China and other Asian countries.

Uzbekrailwayexpedition and JSC Uzrailwaycontainer companies create all possible conditions, provide a wide range of services, provide consultative support and are ready for mutually beneficial long-term partnership in transportation of goods by rail.

Considering the coronavirus pandemic, all necessary preventive measures are taken, freight wagons and containers are thoroughly processed with disinfectants, the message said.

The outbreak of the coronavirus began in the Chinese city of Wuhan (an international transport hub), at a fish market in late December 2019. The number of people killed by the disease has surpassed 69,000. Over 1.2 million people have been confirmed as infected. Meanwhile, over 268,000 people have reportedly recovered.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
