Cargo transportation volume in Azerbaijan in 1Q2020 revealed

The volume of cargo transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan stood at 50.8 million tons from January through March 2020, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee.

The freight traffic in the country decreased by 0.3 percent year-on-year.

Road transport accounted for a significant part of the total freight traffic (58.8 percent) with 29.9 million tons, or 1 percent less compared to the same period in 2019.

More than a third of the total cargo turnover (31.1 percent) was carried out through pipelines. The volume of transported oil decreased by 4.9 percent and amounted to 9.5 million tons. The volume of gas transportation increased by 10.5 percent and amounted to 8.7 billion cubic meters.

Maritime transport accounted for 2.5 percent of the transported goods with almost 1.5 million tons, a decrease of 3 percent, and 36.3 percent of all sea freight accounted for the oil sector.

Rail transport accounted for 7 percent of all traffic with 3.6 million tons, an increase of 0.6 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

Air transport accounted for only 0.1 percent of all freight traffic in the country. Around 69,500 tons of cargo was transported by air, which is 53.4 percent more than in the same period in 2019.

The non-public transport sector accounted for 78.2 percent of all freight traffic, a decrease of 1.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2019.
