Turkmenistan, Iran consider re-launching transportation between two countries

Turkmenistan and Iran discussed opportunities to re-launch of transportation between two countries, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Turkmenistan.

The issue was considered during a meeting hosted MFA of Turkmenistan via videoconference on May 12, 2020. The Turkmen side was represented by high-rank officials of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection, the State Customs Service, the State Border Service, and representatives of relevant structures of Iran participated in the meeting.

The sides also discussed cooperation in the field of transportation, healthcare and construction of joint facilities within implementation of agreements reached earlier between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President of Iran Hassan Rouhani.

The parties touched on issues related to ensuring security at the checkpoints of the Turkmen-Iranian border due to the epidemiological situation in the world.

According to MFA, on the same day, representatives of Turkmenistan, Iran and Uzbekistan held talks on cooperation in the transportation sector.
