The volume of international road transportation in Azerbaijan amounted to 24,000 tons in the first five months of 2020, the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association told Trend.
According to the association, the majority of transportation is currently carried out on CMR - invoices, accounting of which is being carried out by the operators themselves.
“In 2019 and since early 2020, the main priority countries for transportation were Russia, Turkey and Iran. There are no yet plans to expand the geography of transportation and the possibilities of efficient transportation of goods for the current year. However, we are going to introduce electronic capabilities in the near future, in order to quickly obtain and efficiently calculate transportation data,” the association noted.
The association added that the volume of international road transportation for 2019 in Azerbaijan made up about 80,000 tons.
“Despite the fact that recently logistics centers have been created in the country, lack of forwarders creates certain difficulties. To this end, it’s necessary to prepare a law ‘On Forwarding Activities in Azerbaijan’," noted the association.
The association also believes that in order to increase the attractiveness of international road transport of goods, it is necessary to strengthen work to protect interests of local drivers, create conditions to purchase cars on favorable terms, create modern transport enterprises and increase production of export-oriented products.
Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association was established in May 1993. It is a non-commercial organization uniting Azerbaijani individuals and legal entities engaged in international transportation by truck.
The association serves to represent and protect the interests of its members before national and competent authorities within the tasks assigned to it.
