Volume of cargo transshipment through Baku Int'l Sea Trade Port increases

The total volume of cargo transshipment through Baku International Sea Trade Port increased by 26.5 percent in the first five months of 2020 compared to the same period of last year, Head of International Cooperation and Public Relations Department Zaur Hasanov told Trend.

The total volume of cargo transshipment in Baku International Sea Trade Port amounted to 2.1 million tons from January through May of this year, while it amounted to 1.66 million tons during the same period of last year.

"The bulk of the total volume of cargo transshipment in Baku International Sea Trade Port from January through May 2020, traditionally accounted for transit cargo, which to 1.8 million tons or 87 percent of the total volume of transshipment," said Hasanov.

Hasanov pointed out that the number of trucks processed at the Baku International Sea Trade Port from January through May of 2020 increased by 11.6 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 13,504 units.

"As many as 3,462 of these units or 25.6 percent of the total number of trucks, were sent on the Baku-Kuryk-Baku route, while 10,042 or 74.4 percent were sent on the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku route," he added.

Baku International Sea Trade Port closely cooperates with the European Union (EU) in improving the operational efficiency of the port management and risk management. The Baku port, which already has ISO 9001: 2015, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certificates, implements the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its business processes and operations.
