Volume of cargo transportation up in Georgia

The volume of cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Georgia from January through June 2020 amounted to 18.7 million tons, which is 3.3 percent more than during the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The largest volume (70.6 percent of all cargo transportation) fell on road transport (13.2 million tons), an increase of 0.8 percent year-on-year.

Some 5.5 million tons of cargo was transported by rail (an increase of 7.6 percent), while 7,100 tons - by air transport (a decrease by 38.3 percent).

Passenger traffic in the first half of this year decreased by 35 percent to 112.2 million people.

According to the ministry, 110.9 million people were transported by road (a decrease of 34.1 percent), about 600,000 people (a decrease of 2.1 times) - by rail, and 700,000 passengers (a decrease of 3.6 times) - by air.

In 2019, the volume of cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Georgia exceeded 42.3 million tons and increased by 2.9 percent compared to the previous year. Passenger traffic increased by 2.7 percent to 412.2 million people.
