The Indian operator in Iran's Chabahar Port has promised to deliver the first cargo of port equipment by October 2020, deputy of Ports and Maritime Organization, Mohammad Reza Allahyar said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The first group of equipment includes mobile coastal equipment for Shahid Beheshti port in Chabahar, " Allahyar said .

"India's work in Chabahar Port will be evaluated and based on reports, the production and montage of the Italian equipment have been completed and they are ready to be sent to Iran," he added.

"Total value of the equipment is $85 million that would be delivered by Indian operator to Chabahar Port," he said.

"We are seeking to cut reliance on import of port equipment by improving domestic production although imports of equipment to Chabahar Port is an exception, for the rest of the country only two large dredging machines would be imported by next spring," he noted.

"Domestic companies are building two cleanup barges and one oil spill cleanup vessel that would operate in the naval fleet by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020)," he added.

"Other domestic products include building mobile crane," Allahyar said.

"Ports and Maritime Organization has signed a contract with domestic companies to build 83 vessels that would considerably reduce the need to import," he noted.
