COVID-19 causes great damage to civil aviation of Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 8

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The pandemic has caused great damage to the civil aviation of Georgia, Trend reports via Georgian media.

As reported, local civil aviation agency Sakaeronavigatsiya reduced services by 89 percent due to a sharp decline in the number of flights. The company lost its main source of income - flight service fees.

The Georgia Airports Association (GAA) is also facing new challenges due to the large-scale decline in air traffic.

The Association’s revenues depend on regular flights and the pandemic forced to revise plans - in 2020 it was planned to receive revenue of 81.1 million lari ($25.2 million).

Given the current situation, the plans were revised, the estimated income decreased by 42 percent and amounted to 34.2 million lari ($10.6 million).
