Number of tourists visited Georgia from Russia  decreases in nine months

Some 196,100 Russian citizens visited Georgia from January through September 2020, which is 6.1 times less than in the same period last year, Trend reports via the National Tourism Administration.

In terms of the number of citizens who visited Georgia in nine months of 2020, Russians moved from the first position to the fourth over the year. At the same time, only 4,400 Russian citizens visited the republic in September, which is 33.5 times less than in September a year earlier.

Among foreign visitors who visited Georgia in January-September, Azerbaijani citizens make up 283,400 people (a decrease of 4.1 times over the year), in second place in Turkey (279,100 people, a decrease of 3.3 times). This is followed by citizens of Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Poland, Uzbekistan, Germany, India, and other countries.

As reported, over 9 months of 2020, 1.59 million foreigners visited Georgia, which is 4.5 times less than in the same period last year. Of these, there were 961,200 tourists, that is, those who spent more than 24 hours in the republic (a decrease of 4.2 times), the rest came with other purposes or were in transit in the republic.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Georgia, both the air, land, and sea borders of the country have been closed to passengers since March 21. Only cargo can be transported, and the country also accepts Georgian citizens and foreign visitors, whose trips are carried out by charter flights.
