Russia’s GAZ group will launch the assembly of light commercial vehicles in Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

Agreements on the creation of a joint venture have already been reached with the Uzbek side.

The light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment includes vehicles weighing 3.5 tons — light-duty trucks and minibusses.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Alexei Gruzdev said that the GAZ group could start assembly in Uzbekistan as early as 2021.

Gruzdev specified that at the first stage, it is planned to master the assembly production of up to 3,000 vehicles per year with a subsequent increase in capacity.

The partner of the Russian automaker will be Krantas Uzbek LLC, the largest enterprise in Uzbekistan for the production of special equipment.

To date, GAZ minibusses, used as route taxi, as well as light trucks, are very popular in Uzbekistan.

In March 2018, KamAZ another Russian automaker started assembling trucks at the UzAuto Trailer production facilities in the Samarkand region. They produce 11 models with a carrying capacity from 10 to 36 tons.
