Cargo transportation volumes decrease in Kazakhstan country-wide

A total of 358.4 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Sept. 2020, which is 7 percent less than in Sept. 2019, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of cargo transported over nine months of 2020 amounted to 2.8 billion tons, which is 7.4 percent less year-on-year compared to 3.06 billion tons over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 66.2 million tons in September and 520.8 million tons in over nine months of 2020, which is 21.4 percent and 15.7 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 61.5 million tons transported in Sept. 2020 (decrease of 1.6 percent compared to Sept. 2019). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 464.9 million tons, which compared to 474.2 million during the same period last year, indicates a 2 percent decrease.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in Sept. 2020 (31.07 million tons, down by 21.4 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the region over nine months of 2020 amounted to 215.5 million tons, which is 6.8 percent less than during the same period last year (231.2 million tons).

The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 4.2 million tons of cargo in Sept. 2020, which is 18 percent more than in Sept. 2019. The volume of cargo transported over nine months of 2020 was 27.9 million tons, which is 1.9 percent less year-on-year.
