Thales Group ready to work on automation, security of railways in Azerbaijan's liberated lands

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 3

Trend:

Thales International Azerbaijan is read y to support all railway projects that will be implemented in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the company's technical director Mikhail Malinovsky told Trend.

Thales International Azerbaijan ensures the safety of the movement of rail vehicles in Azerbaijan, said the technical director.

“Most of all, we experience difficulties in moving employees from one country to another, both at the state and corporate levels,” he said.

“In Azerbaijan, as in the post-Soviet space, the railway technologies are based on Soviet and Russian solutions. Thales has experience with such solutions, because we’ve implemented our systems in Latvia, where there are exactly the same system as the one here,” added Malinovsky.

“Moreover, Thales can introduce new European systems in Azerbaijan. This is an integrated approach, where it is necessary to take into account the technologies and territories for the introduction of new systems. If, for example, we take into account that the trains that are currently equipped with the old system will move from the center of Azerbaijan to the territory where modern railways exist, then here it is necessary to renew the old system with the European one,” he said.

“There is also a project in Baku city on the construction of the subway railway from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to the city. In regards to the implementation of the project, we also can partake in the automation of its movement," Malinovsky said.

“Within the tram projects, Thales can offer a solution for automatic control of traffic signals, implement a safety function related to speed limits, provide direct communication with the dispatch center, where the operator of the dispatch center can control the rail switches and the speed of trams,” he emphasized.

Currently, the French Thales is creating a SCADA network on the purple line of the Baku Metro. In the future, train traffic will be provided with CBTC systems based on the principle of radio channel control. It also uses the TETRA system, which allows wireless telephony to be connected.
