Passenger transport volumes plummet in Kazakhstan in 2020

A total of 381.3 million passengers were transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Dec. 2020, which is 81.9 percent less than in Dec. 2019, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of passengers transported over 2020 amounted to 8.3 billion people, which is 64.8 percent less year-on-year compared to 23.8 billion over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the passengers were transported to Kazakhstan’s Almaty city. The number of passengers transported in the region amounted to 110.3 million people in December and 1.9 billion people over 2020, which is 78.7 percent and 65.1 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Almaty city is followed by the Pavlodar region with 37.1 million people transported in Dec. 2020 (a decrease of 65.2 percent compared to Dec. 2019). The number of passengers transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 576.3 million people, which compared to 1.2 billion during the same period last year, indicates a 53.4 percent decrease.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the passengers transported in Dec. 2020 (35.1 million people, down by 77.9 percent). The number of passengers transported in the region over 2020 amounted to 700.1 million, which is 62.5 percent less than during the same period last year (1.8 billion people).

The least passenger volume was transported in the Mangystau region. The transported passenger volume stood at 1.6 million passengers in Dec. 2020, which is 79.7 percent less than in Dec. 2019. The volume of passengers transported over 2020 was 31.3 million, which is 65.3 percent less year-on-year.
