Trend:

Iran to invest in Khoy – Razi border route to develop trade cooperation and transit with neighbor countries especially with Turkey, said the head of parliament civil committee.

"In regard to the country's development policies with neighbor countries especially with Turkey the priority of civil construction projects is to boost border terminal to develop trade and cargo and passenger transit," said Mohammad Reza Rezaei Kouchi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"About $59 million has been predicted to be assigned to accelerate the construction of Khoy-Razi route. The route would have four intersections and a tunnel that would be built simultaneously, " said the representative of Khoy and Chaypareh counties in parliament.

"During last Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) about 1.4 million passengers have transported via Razi border to Turkey and completing the road would increase transportations considerably. The trade volume between Iran and Turkey is currently $9 billion and we hope after coronavirus the figure would become $30 billion by the development of borders," he noted.

More than half of the construction of the Razi-Khoy border terminal has been completed and it would be operated in the first three months of the new Iranian year (starts March 21, 2021).

"The construction of the following border terminal between Iran and Turkey has 52 percent physical progress, the operation of this terminal would complete the passenger corridor. The predicted credit for the operation of this border terminal is $21 million and so far $10 million has been assigned to the plan," said Abdulhashem Hassan Niya.

Razi terminal is one the biggest terminals in the country. Razi border is one of the important borders between Iran and Turkey and other countries that could export non-oil goods from the West Azerbaijan Province

"From the start of the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) until now about 400,000 tons of commodities valued $435 million were transited via Razi customs that indicate 75 percent increase comparing to last Iranian year. The major destinations for Iran's export via Khoy border were Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, some European countries, and the Persian Gulf countries," said Khoy Governor.
