Iranian Minister talks plans related to roads, railways and ports

Four provinces of Iran - Ardabil, Yazd, Kurdistan and Isfahan - will soon be connected to the Iranian railway network, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mohammad Eslami told the IRIB, Trend reports.

According to the minister, the number of provinces connected to the Iranian railway network will reach 9 during the term of the current government with the connection of these provinces to the Iranian railway network. So far, five provinces of Iran - East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Hamadan, Kermanshah and Gilan - have been connected to the Iranian railway network.

Eslami added that the capacity of Iranian ports is currently 250 million tons. While this figure will reach 500 million tons over the next 5 years.

"Over the past years, the private sector has invested 200 trillion rials (about $4.76 billion) in Iranian ports," he said.

The minister noted that Iran produces several special containers, port equipment and necessary ships at present. A number of contracts for the repair of certain ships will be signed soon.

Eslami stressed that some oil terminals for the export of crude oil and oil products are being built in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. This will lead to great development on the southern coast of Iran.

"The length of the Controlled-access highway in Iran will reach 3,100 kilometers by the end of the current government in Iran (until August 2021)," he said.

The minister emphasized that at the same time the length of the main road in Iran will reach 20,000 kilometers, and the length of other roads will reach 26,000 kilometers.
