Iran's Gorgan-Mashhad railway to be built

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 28

The railway line from Gorgan city in Iran's Golestan Province to Mashhad city in Razavi Khorasan Province will be built in five years, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

He made the remark at an event dedicated to the launch of the Bandar Torkaman-Kordkuy road.

The minister emphasized that the government is trying to build this railway with the help of the capital market. The financial work on this railway project has been completed.

Eslami added that the Gorgan-Mashhad railway line is one of the nine main projects that Iran is focusing on and the railway will be built with the financial support of the capital market.

The length of the Gorgan-Mashhad railway line is about 570 kilometers. It is estimated that the railway line will have 27 stations and a tunnel more than 15 kilometers long.

As reported, this railway will be able to transport 1.6 million tons of products and 2-4 million passengers a year.
