Uzbekistan considers resuming air communication with Russia

Uzbekistan considers resuming air communication with Russia in March-April, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Jasurbek Choriev said during a roundtable in Tashkent on the country's transport diplomacy that there are all prerequisites for the resumption of air communication with Russia in March-April.

Choriev explained that all information about the epidemiological situation that has developed to date in Uzbekistan has been sent to the Russian special commission for countering coronavirus.

“According to the criteria set by the Russian commission to resume regular flights, Uzbekistan fits all the standards,” he added.

Earlier flights between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have been resumed. The flights between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are operated once a week by the national airline of Uzbekistan - Uzbekistan Airways and the airline of the Tajikistan - Somon Air LLC.

It is reported that air traffic was terminated in Uzbekistan due to the quarantine measures taken in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 from March 16, 2020, and from April 1, 2020, all border checkpoints of the country were closed.

Under the instructions of president of Uzbekistan, unlimited movement of vehicles, as well as local air and rail travel in Uzbekistan, was resumed since August 15, 2020. Also, from August 17, 2020, Tashkent resumed public transportation.

From October 1, all border crossing points in Uzbekistan are opened for road, rail, and air transport.
