BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.10

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

There has been and will continue to be a big interest of Austrian companies to contribute to the expansion of Georgian ports with sophisticated equipment and know-how, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs told Trend.

"Austria is a land-locked country but has a very old history in maritime activities and technology. Austria also manufactures equipment and technology for ports," the ministry said.

As an open economy, Austria is welcoming all kinds of investment, it is up to the Georgian companies to decide where and when to invest, the source added.

"Given their expertise in the respective areas, hydropower, infrastructure, logistics and food industries are of particular interest for Austrian companies with an interest to invest in Georgia," said the ministry.

Austria and Georgia established diplomatic relations in 1992 and Georgia opened its embassy in Vienna in 1996. Austria is represented in Georgia through a nonresident ambassador based in Vienna, and through an honorary consulate in Tbilisi. Georgia has an embassy in Vienna and an honorary consulate in Graz.
