BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia and Ukraine have signed an agreement on the implementation of the practice of issuing electronic permits for international cargo transportation, Trend reports via the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.

The corresponding memorandum of cooperation was signed today by Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia Guram Guramishvili and First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Dmitry Abramovich, who arrived in Tbilisi as part of a delegation of the Ukrainian department.

As a result of cooperation in the process of introducing innovative digital technologies in road transport, the parties will gradually be able to transfer the existing control and permitting system to a fully digital format.

Also at the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of improving transit along the Black Sea, in particular, increasing the number of ferry traffic and the frequency of movement of container ships.

“Prospects for road communication with Ukraine are very important for our corridor, therefore the signed memorandum will contribute to the further development of road communication and mutually beneficial economic cooperation between our countries,” Guramishvili said.

Georgia and Ukraine established diplomatic relations in July 1992. Since that time, 105 bilateral and multilateral agreements have been signed between the countries.

There is a free trade regime between the countries. Ukraine is among the top ten trade partners of Georgia. In 2020, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to more than $607.2 million, $52.3 million less than in 2019.
