Iran unveils volume of transit through Gilan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6

In general, 17,673 tons of goods were transited through the Gilan Province (northern Iran) in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2021), Director General of the Gilan Province Roads and Transportation Department Fariborz Moradi said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

The director general noted that 12,900 tons of goods were transited by road through Astara border checkpoint and 4,770 tons through Anzali port.

“The goods entering the province for transit purposes were mainly wood materials and flour, while the goods leaving the province for transit were mainly rice and tea,” he added.

According to Moradi, 9,620 trucks passed through the Astara border checkpoint during the first month of the current Iranian year. So, an average of 156 trucks daily entered the country, while 160 trucks left the country through the Astara border checkpoint.

"Thus, an average of 311 trucks daily passed through the Astara border checkpoint within the 1st month," the director general said.

Moradi stressed that there are currently 144 international cargo and passenger transportation companies operating in Iran's Gilan Province.
