Iran to inaugurate new airport in Kurdistan Province

The Saqqez Airport in the Kurdistan Province (western Iran) is scheduled to open by June 21, 2021, Director of Sanandaj Airport in Iran's Kurdistan Province Amir Abbas Nazarizadeh said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

The director noted that there is currently 85 percent physical progress in the construction of the airport terminal.

He added that there is also about 52 percent progress in the construction of airport runways. All work is expected to be completed before the airport is opened.

Nazarizadeh said that the airport terminal has an area of 2,300 square meters. The area of the airport apron is 2,500 square meters. There is also a taxiway at the airport, which is 2,800 meters long and 30 meters wide.

According to him, given that the region is mountainous, the Saqqez Airport is mainly designed for the take-off and landing of ATR airplanes.
