Cargo transportation volumes surge in Kazakhstan

A total of 261.2 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Apr. 2021, which is 1.6 percent more than in Apr. 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of cargo transported over the first four months of 2021 amounted to 1.07 billion tons, which is 2.2 percent less year-on-year compared to 1.1 billion tons over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 45.2 million tons in April and 188.8 million tons over the reporting period of 2021, which is 5 percent and 10.6 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 41.8 million tons transported in Apr. 2021 (up by 2.9 percent compared to Apr. 2020). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 179.3 million tons, which compared to 176.5 million during the same period last year, indicates a 1.6-percent increase.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in Apr. 2021 (18.5 million tons, up by 3.7 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the region over four months of 2021 amounted to 74.7 million tons, which is 1.2 percent less than during the same period last year (75.6 million tons).

The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 2.9 million tons of cargo in Apr. 2021, which is 40.2 percent less than in Apr. 2020. The volume of cargo transported from Jan. through Apr. 2021 was 12.3 million tons, which is 47 percent less year-on-year.
