Azerbaijan, Iran eye to expand transit, int'l cargo transportation by road

Iran intends to expand cargo transportation on international corridors in transit through Azerbaijan, as well as bilateral transportation, Head of the International Transport and Transit Department of the Organization of Roads and Transport of Iran, Javad Hidayati, said, Trend reports with reference to the State Road Transport Service of Azerbaijan.

Hidayati made the speech at a meeting in Iran’s Tabriz city with Azerbaijani colleagues

In turn, Head of the State Road Transport Service of Azerbaijan, Habib Hasanov, informed the Iranian side on the issues of protecting the interests of Azerbaijani road carriers and the market of road transport services, increasing their competitiveness, improving the licensing system at border checkpoints.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the benefits of using electronic document management in the field of international road transport, improving the quality of control procedures, improving the management and tracking of the supply chain.

They also discussed the issues of reducing the cost of cargo transportation and the rules of operation of the border terminals of the two countries, the parties exchanged statistical data, including on cargo transportation, taxes and fees from vehicles of both countries at border crossing points.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed to study the problems associated with international cargo transportation.
