Uzbekistan eyes launching electric vehicle production in Andijan region

Uzbekistan plans to build a large plant for the production of electric vehicles in Andijan region, Trend reports referring to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

During his visit to Andijan region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the plant for the production of electric vehicles in Andijan region will be based on Chinese technologies.

Earlier, it was reported that 156 electric vehicles were imported to Uzbekistan from January through April, which is 138 more than in the same period in 2020. Most of the vehicles were delivered from China (119) and Turkey (24).

In addition, 150 electric vehicles were imported by Tashkent. Two were imported into the Samarkand and Andijan regions, one each - to the Tashkent and Syrdarya regions.

It was noted that in a total of $3.4 million was spent on the purchase of electric vehicles since the beginning of 2021.

Furthermore, the head of the strategic planning, analytics and development department of UzAuto Motors, Rustam Kadyrov earlier said that UzAuto Motors plans to launch the production of domestic electric cars by 2025 said a briefing at the plant in Asaka.

According to Kadyrov, it is initially necessary to equip the entire infrastructure, including charging stations, in order to start the production of electric vehicles in Uzbekistan.

Also, he noted that the strategy for the production of electric vehicles was developed in conjunction with the Boston Consulting Group, a global management-consulting firm.

It was noted that until February 1, 2021, UzAuto Motors was instructed to attract foreign experts and consulting companies and develop a draft concept.
